Newsflash

Throughout Wednesday 11th April RAPID UK monitored the situation in countries bordering the Indian Ocean after an earthquake measuring 8.7 hit off the coast of Northern Sumatra, followed by strong aftershocks and a tsunami warning which was lated lifted. The volunteer team of trained and experienced search and rescue workers supported the Indonesian response to an earthquake in Sumatra in 2009, and have recently delivered water rescue training to vulnerable communities in India and Pakistan. "Our thoughts are very much with those affected by this event", said Operational Director John Holland, "and  as always if needed the team would be ready to assist if international search and rescue teams were required".
